Inspired by the great historical tradition of formal garden-making and by the natural world James McConnell brings elegance and charm to his garden design work, where his aim is to create gardens with atmosphere.

James has been gardening since he was seven. He now gardens extensively within his farm at his County Meath home.

His approach has always been intuitive rather than intellectual. Ever practical, he designs with the function of the garden and its subsequent maintenance in mind. Structure, scale and careful detailing typify his style to date. James draws his inspiration from great gardeners like Russell Page, David Hicks, Monty Don and Nancy Lancaster.

James' belief is that a beautiful garden can be created with the simplest of means. He feels that a revival of the artisan garden, with specifically designed custom-made objects and careful detailing are his current direction in garden design.
